Valencia Cathedral, Metropolitan Church

The Cathedral of Valencia, identified under the name of Cathedral-Basilica Metropolitana de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora de Valencia Church, is the greatest religious architectural representation that the city has to offer.

Its impressive dimensions allow you to discover it from Plaza de la Virgen, Plaza de la Reina and Plaza de la Almoina.

The origin of Valencia Cathedral dates back to 1262. History, however, goes back to 1238, when, at the desire of James I, the Cathedral was recovered under the dedication of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Since its construction until today, numerous artists have participated in its creation and remodeling, as well as different architectural styles. Andreu Juliá, Joan Franch, Pere Balaguer, Martí Llobet, Francesc Baldomar or Gaspar Gregori are some of those responsible for the evolution of its architecture to the present day, passing through the classic styles of Romanesque, Valencian Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and finally Neoclassical.

Valencia Cathedral is erected over three naves with chapels present between transept buttresses. In addition, it also has three doors of different architectural style each (Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque).

Old Cabanyal station

The old Cabanyal station was inaugurated on 20 April 1862, with the opening of the Valencia-Sagunto section of the line linking Valencia with Tarragona.

Solache farmhouse

It is the headquarters of the Center for the Promotion of Adolescent Health Dr. Manuel Llombart and is located on Riu Segre street, in the Valencian neighborhood of Benicalap.
The project to create this center for advice, care and health education for adolescents is motivated by the special sensitivity shown by the Department of Health for this stage of life – which marks the transition from childhood to adulthood – and by the importance that all biological changes imply for future habits and lifestyles, emotional and social that occur during this period.

Felix farmhouse

In the Marxalenes Park is the Alquería de Félix, this farmhouse is intended for museum endowment within this large urban park, housing in it the Nature Classroom and an ethnographic museum of Valencian rural housing.
Currently we can find the farmhouse and a patio formed by it. In the courtyard we have a series of three new volumes that are adapted to the different uses required by the program (toilets, facilities and a part of the Nature Classroom), also taking into account aspects of traditional architecture.

Ximeneres in Guardia Civil street

This Ximenera belongs to the business-housing of Chalet Vista Alegre, today the Municipal Exhibition Board, Benimaclet neighborhood, is located in a garden area.

Refugio Colegio Gran Asociación

refugio

The project is from September 1938. It has a rectangular floor plan with
corner
entrances on opposite sides. It has three galleries, covered by two vaults just 10 meters long and 5.5 meters wide at its base. The preserved plan also contemplates the truss plant of the upper slab and that of the ventilation installation, being the Xerri and Bonora ventilation project.

Mill of the Sun

The Molí del Sol is located in the municipality of Valencia, Partida de Dalt de Campanar, currently on the northern edge of Cabecera Park, next to the old Turia riverbed. It is built on the mother irrigation canal of Rascanya and was the first mill of this system.

Architecturally it is a building that represents the constructive characteristics of a farmhouse of the late nineteenth century, with the peculiarity of its adaptation to the uses of the hydraulic mill.

It is the last mill built in the Huerta de Valencia, Therefore, it does not represent the greatest value as a built element, but it is one of the few that remain standing and with a still orchard environment, so its protection as a building is recommended, as well as that of its surroundings to avoid new constructions that affect its perspective.

Alquería del Foraster

Its conservation helps to preserve an image already familiar to neighbors. It also has a great scenic and historical interest, taking advantage of its interior space to house the maintenance premises of the Park.

The two farmsteads that remain in this area were destined to the Youth Center (Casa Lluna) and to the Social Center of the Neighborhood (Alqueria de Voro , el de la Barraca).

Espada Refuge

This shelter belongs to the lintel model, formed by a rectangle covered by a thick concrete slab supported by robust square columns that widen at the top, at the junction with the roof. It has a running bench to sit on the perimeter walls and around the pillars. It preserves signs of machinery and pipes for air renewal. Currently the walls are full of graffiti and it has quite a lot of humidity.

On the façade it retains the two access doors at street level that led to the stairs. On one of them you can still guess the remains of the letters REFUGI. Due to the hidden location of this shelter, it was necessary to place a second advertising sign on the corner of Calle Espasa and Plaza de Tetuán.

This privately owned refuge has rarely been accessible and it is difficult to complete its description. At some point (according to oral information) it was used as a rehearsal place for a musical group, at which time the aforementioned graffiti would belong. The entrances are currently closed. It has capacity for 380 people.
