Valencia, Mediterranean City

"Valencia has urban and natural characteristics that are strong points to exploit. As a medium-sized city with a friendly climate, it invites you to discover it by walking, and now thanks to the mobility policies of the council, by bicycle (...), the kindness of the city and the people who live in it, a city where the street is alive, there is a lot of festive sociability, it is a welcoming, inclusive city (…) The possibility of opening the window to the Mediterranean again is being considered”

Pla de Cultura de la Ciutat de València, 2017

Valencia, Ciutat Mediterrània responds to the double strategic objective of a) enriching the cultural offer and encouraging citizen participation in the cultural process and b) developing city synergies and building and projecting a cultural image rooted in its local and Mediterranean heritage Culture Plan of the City of Valencia, 2017 (1). Valencia Mediterranean City proposes initiatives aimed at highlighting the important intangible asset that its character as a Mediterranean city entails, opening again the windows to the sea that identifies it and making known the role of the Mediterranean in the configuration of our identity The initiatives of this program carried out by the Department of Cultural Heritage and Resources are listed and described below:

The relaunch of an event that for many years was very important to our city has been one of the main bets of the Department of Heritage and Cultural Resources. The recovery of the Valencia Exhibition responds to the double objective of a) enriching the cultural offer and b) encouraging citizen participation in the cultural process and building and projecting a cultural image rooted in its local and Mediterranean heritage. Thus, the Valencia Exhibition is not only a new cultural proposal, but aims to contribute to the structuring of a cultural area as important as the Mediterranean, claiming an identity that over the years has exerted an indisputable influence in the context of world cinema.

A pending subject for our city is the necessary tribute to the Mediterranean Sea and its role in shaping our identity. Its influence on our character, our history, our gastronomy or our economy will be reflected in the future Museum of the Sea, which will have three locations. In a first phase, the Casa dels Bous Museum will be located in El Cabanyal and El Varadero, in the port. Later, the Museum will open its third headquarters in Les Drassanes.
