The City Museum opens the exhibition “The València that was. Photographs by José Miguel de Miguel (1957 – 1987)” this Thursday, 1 February at 7 pm. The event will be attended by the Councillor for Cultural Action, Heritage and Cultural Resources, José Luis Moreno, and the curator of the exhibition, Juan Pedro Font de Mora, from the Railowsky Foundation.

The exhibition was selected in 2022 as part of the Open Call for exhibition projects by an interdisciplinary jury, made up of specialists appointed at the proposal of the Valencian Association of Art Critics (AVVAC), the Academy of San Carlos, the Faculty of Fine Arts of Valencia and the Department of Culture of the City Council of Valencia.

The exhibition is a journey through the city and its surroundings, by the photographer José Miguel de Miguel, from the end of the 1950s to the end of the 1980s. Through his gaze, the public can see how the artist did not pay too much attention to the setting of his photographs, as he focused on the human landscape, on people and their way of life in the street. He portrayed everyday scenes that took place in his surroundings.

By the curator’s wishes, all the photographs in the exhibition are analogue. Most of them are vintage copies, printed by the author on dates immediately after the photographs were taken, which gives them the value of authenticity.

The exhibition is installed on the main floor of the Museo de la Ciudad and can be visited free of charge from the day after the opening, during the centre’s normal opening hours, until Sunday 12 May 2024.

In addition, there will be guided tours for all audiences on Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. To book a place, please call the centre’s telephone number. For group visits, the visit can be booked through the platform.
