Benlliure House Museum
In 1957 Maria Benlliure Ortiz donated to Valencia City Council the family home where her father, the famous painter Josep Benlliure Gil (Valencia, 1855-1937), lived and worked, together with numerous works of art and interesting objects, leading to the creation of the current house-museum.
The building, built between 1880 and 1883, is an interesting example of housing for the high bourgeoisie of the time, consisting of a three-storey house, garden and painting pavilion.
The main building recreates, on its ground floor, a series of domestic rooms where you can enjoy the genuine furniture of the late nineteenth century, as well as interesting works by renowned artists of the moment such as Sorolla, Muñoz Degrain, Rusiñol , Luna Novicio, Nagy, etc.
The mezzanine floor shows a selection of paintings, notes, sketches and old photographic reproductions of paintings by Josep Benlliure, while the First floorIt is intended for a permanent exhibition of works by Josep Benlliure Ortiz, "Peppino", son of the painter to whose memory the museum is also dedicated, as well as the sculptor Marià Benlliure. In the The temporary exhibition hall is located on the second floor.
Behind the house visitors can enjoy a large Mediterranean-style garden and a certain romantic aspect decorated with tile panels, sculptures and stone elements of diverse origin.
At the back of the property stands a single Painting pavilion, built in 1902. On the ground floor you can see an emotional audiovisual about Josep Benlliure, an interesting collection of historical ceramics, a selection of clothing and some of Peppino's most famous paintings . On the upper floor, tapestries, period furniture, musical instruments and objects from different origins blend in with some of the most outstanding works by Josep Benlliure and undoubtedly create one of the most captivating spaces in this house-museum.
