It was designed by Julio Bellot Senet, according to the agreement of the City Council of 1954 and began the works at the end of May 1957. It is located in the heart of the Ruzafa neighborhood, opposite the baroque church of San Valero, in an area that has undergone rapid modifications of the initial urban structures with the inclusion of residential buildings of much greater height.

The market was laid out on a rectangular plot of 4,780 square meters. The structure of the factory is made of reinforced concrete on the roof and prestressed concrete beams. The floor plan is divided into three main parts: the administration building, in the form of an attached tower, the fish shop and the market itself. The interior space, dedicated to a market of "several", is 60 by 55 meters and a height of 16 meters. The fish shop, located in an adjacent place, in the corner to the right, in direct communication with the previous premises and with the adjacent streets, measures 21 by 24 meters.

Formally it follows the typology of the Market building in Valencia, covered but not totally enclosed, with lattice elements that serve as protection against rain and wind -Central Market-. Here language is eclectic, the result of the use of certain elements in the construction that have a functional origin and an expression not autonomous but identified with that function (the binomial form-function follows too direct a relationship of chance: once the function is filled in there is no research in the formal elaboration).

It is noteworthy the articulation of the different activities (offices, sales, exhibition) inside the building and their differentiated expression outside. Also the extraversion of the market that takes the stalls abroad and animates the urban scene, giving it an appearance of an open-air market, the thread with the urban structure of the neighborhood -narrow and irregular streets- is evident and evokes the tradition of the souks that is in the cultural origins of it.
