The Local Government Board (JGL) has approved to put out to tender the implementation of the project for the implementation of technological applications in the Natural Sciences Museum of Valencia, with a duration of 9 months and a total amount of 1,146,644.40 euros (VAT included).
Thus, the Museum will be able to offer novelties such as augmented reality, virtual visits and 3D films thanks to a project, developed by the Polytechnic University of Valencia, which will implement innovative interactive technologies that will improve the visitor experience and advance in the modernisation of the museum.
The municipal spokesman, Juan Carlos Caballero, indicated that the aim of this action “is to attract a wider public and also to capture the attention of a technophile public, both tourists and locals, who are looking for fun and immersive experiences in museums”.
The project to implement technological applications for the Natural Science Museum of Valencia is financed by funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (Next Generation) within the framework of the Tourism Sustainability Plan for Destinations (PSTD), and both contracts will last for 9 months, with no possibility of extension.
Caballero explained that the project includes 9 actions consisting of the development of an augmented reality mobile application; the generation of a 3D film and the provision of equipment to view it, as well as three audiovisuals; and the development of two permanent interactive installations such as “The History of Planet Earth” and “The Cave of Hands”.
In addition, two interactive map applications integrated in touch screens will be generated for the room on palaeontological sites and the malacology room; the necessary furniture for the interactive installations; the audiovisual reconditioning of the museum’s projection room; and the supply of peripherals and computer systems.
