The Palace of the Marquis of La Scala is located in Plaza de Manises in Valencia. Its construction dates from the sixteenth century, although in subsequent centuries several reforms were made, which leads to the fact that in this building coexist today the Valencian Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles.

This was the Palace of the Marquises of L’Escala and Lords of Manises. At the beginning of the fourteenth century Pedro Boïl de Aragón, first lord of Manises, married Altadona della Scala, of Italian origin.

Currently the palace is composed of the union of two buildings from different eras, two stately mansions whose courtyards are united, which is why it has a double portal.

The building of the sixteenth century, which is considered the main one, responds to the four levels of the Gothic: semi-basement, mezzanine, main floor and upper gallery. One of the most striking elements is the tower with a quadrangular floor plan and flat terrace that is located on the left, topped on the highest with balls.

In the mezzanine floor there are four resolved gaps with adintel windows closed by bars, which on the first floor become five balconies with wrought iron sills. The second-floor gallery includes 15 semicircular arches in Renaissance character on rectangular pillars.

The second building is Baroque in style, and both were merged in the eighteenth century. Stylistically they form a harmonious whole, even in the arched gallery of the upper gallery, a little smaller.

The main door, that of the building of the sixteenth century, is framed by a semicircular arch in which appears the noble shield of the Boïl, lords of Manises.

The interior courtyards, of great beauty, distribute the dependencies of each building. The oldest has a Gothic structure, with a quadrangular floor plan, while the most modern has a baroque structure, with a rectangular floor plan.

It is also worth mentioning the imperial stairs of the eighteenth century, present in both buildings, and the wooden coffered of its Noble Hall.

Although throughout history it has had different uses, today this palace depends on the Provincial Council.

Asset of Cultural Interest. Declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument in 1949.
