Ateneo Mercantil

Recognitions that show the enormous vitality of an institution that organizes countless cultural activities. The Ateneo Mercantil promoted the Trade Schools, the Bolsín de Corredors (La Bolsín), the Chamber of Commerce, the Official School of Languages, the Trade Fairs, the transfer of water to the conservation of monumentality and the Southern Solution for the defense of the city with the work of the Port. It also gave rise to works as diverse as the Valencian Society of Trams, the city's first radio station, the Madrid-Cuenca railway connection, the current Central Fallera Board and the Valencian Charity Association.
Since 1950, the Athenaeum has been declared of Public Utility and has its headquarters in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. It has about 4,000 members. Special mention deserves its exceptional private collection of books and manuscripts. Since 1935, its library has been one of the great assets in the training of students and researchers in the province of Valencia and that shows its vocation of service to society.

In recent years, the social mass and interest in the Ateneo Mercantil have increased, recovering the essence that gave rise to the institution, the wide cultural proposal that was born to a large extent, due to the enormous participation of the partners, and the interest of other groups or companies, which wish to celebrate their events in the institution.
