Monument to Master Serrano
The monument to the master composer José Serrano, is the achievement of a series of initiatives, management, projects, aid, failures and, after all, determined obstinages, of the mayors Marqués del Turia and Adolfo Rincón de Arellano, and is located in the square formed by the streets of Borriana and Maestro Gozalbo as it flows into the avenue formed in the early twenties. to transfer the railway from Valencia to Barcelona to another route; urban road, wooded with more than two hundred palm trees, which successively was called Victoria Eugenia (April 14), José Antonio and recently Avenida del Reino de Valencia.
In this urban setting, the monument inspired by the composer was erected, consisting of a seated figure, cast in bronze, a realistic portrait of Maestro Serrano, with his cape, in front of a rectangular wall, landscaped, of dark stone, framing a long high relief or allusive frieze, in white Carrara marble, eight meters long, slightly curved, with diverse figures that alludes to the symphonic, chamber and popular music, composed and directed by the popular Valencian musician -son of Sueca- work of the sculptor S. Octavio Vicent.
On the back of this backwall, on a dark grey, in incision of capital Roman lettering, the titles reflect the following works composed by the master in this order: "The motet. The Moorish Queen. The White House. Moors and Christians. The boy dog. Smuggling. The sea of loves. The Princess of the Golden Loops. The Tejada chicken. The bad shadow. Twelfth Night. The trust of the tenorios. Soul of God. the joy of the battalion. Nanita lullaby. The chariot of the sun. If I were King. Friend Melchiades. The song of oblivion. The Prince Carnival. Those of Aragon. The spinners. Carnations. La Dolorosa. The sale of cats. Regional Anthem. The faller".
The management of the monument was in charge of the director of the magazine "Pentagrama" Alejandro García Planas, supported by the aforementioned "councilor in chief", it was solemnly and cordially inaugurated on February 28, 1965, with the active assistance of thirteen bands that, previously, had toured the city, converging in the monument, as well as the City Council, farmers and fallers, and large audiences; solemnity that culminated in a speech of rigor and the clamorous interpretation of the Regional Anthem, by Serrano.
