Covered 5 of the Port of Valencia
In the second decade of the twentieth century, engineers José María Fuster and Fausto Élio built six tangles, within the Plan for the Expansion and Improvement of the Port of Valencia, ordered by the Ministry of Public Works of the time, which sought to revitalize the export force of our port.
These constructions belong to the Valencian modernist style. They have metal structures and highlight their modernist decoration that refers to commercial and maritime life, their polychrome ceramic mosaics of fruit, etc.
Of those six tangles, only three remain. Shed 5 of the Valencia Marina is one of them. Its original function was mainly to store goods, vegetables and grain. At the time, the construction of these entanglements was experienced as a symbol of progress and modernity.
They were bombed during the Civil War and were subsequently restored, although the flood of 1957 again damaged them. They were declared Assets of Local Significance of the city.
Specifically, Shed 5, which has an area of 7,500 square meters, was ceded by the City Council to the Generalitat, for use as a pit area and VIP area in the Formula 1 Grand Prix, which was held in our city between 2008 and 2012. Then it was abandoned.
Subsequently, it was returned to the Valencia City Council and has been rehabilitated to use it for uses related to the innovation sector and the knowledge economy, following the line of the Strategic Plan of the Marina.
Within the recovery plan of the Marina de València to convert tangles into scenarios for new citizen projects, the idea is that Cobert 5 becomes a space for entrepreneurs and innovative companies.
