La Biennal de València Ciutat Vella Oberta celebrates its tenth anniversary in this sixth edition, consolidating its work since 2013. The Biennial is a cultural project whose aim is to energise the Valencian art scene and proposes strategies that promote the circulation of content by incorporating new artistic practices.
The exhibition will open at the City Museum on the evening of Friday 24 November, and will be open to the public from Saturday 25 November 2023 until 7 January 2024. It is materialised thanks to the participation of the artists and the (voluntary) support of the institutions. In the exhibition at the City Museum we will have 53 works on display, two-dimensional wall works (painting, collage, engraving, printed work) and three-dimensional works (sculpture, artist’s books).
In this new edition we have a positive balance, since the number of participating artists and workshops that propose new activities in the Art Circuit has been increasing, where the cultural offer is made visible through the total connectivity between Workshops and Museums or Contemporary Art Centres. All this makes up a journey of experiences to project Valencian cultural identity to the world and place our city among the great international art centres. On this occasion we have extended the dates to be able to carry out these walking tours in depth during November and part of December, and thus promote and publicise the proposals that arise in this cultural activity.
The exhibitions reflect a renewal of the themes that motivate the artists, expressing current affairs in a critical way, exploring new genre narratives or exploring the union between art and writing, where we have taken the figure of Francisco Brines as a reference point. The Biennial pays homage to this poet who inspires great Valencian artists and, as a result, a transformation can be observed that reflects a concern for investigating new expressions in art. Transversally to all these proposals, our objectives of inclusion, solidarity, participatory synergies, interactions with other art collectives, equality in participation and constant concern for the environment through sustainable strategies are fulfilled.
La Biennal de València advances and grows thanks to the committed participation of hundreds of artists who are involved in the transformation of reality and who contribute proposals that point to the necessary changes of today for the future. Thanks to their enthusiasm, their voluntary effort, the support of institutions, Centres, Foundations and Workshops, the collaboration of our sponsors and thanks to the public who constantly motivate us, we manage to meet the challenges and we will continue with our work in the next editions.
