The Palau de la Música sets up a zero queue at the Nadal Solidari for those affected by the DANA

  • The auditorium programmes two concerts in support of the Amores, Grup de Percussió and the Sedajazz collective, victims of the floods.

The Palau de la Música is joining Valencia City Council’s Nadal Solidari initiative for those affected by the DANA, with a zero row for eight concerts and shows in the programme for December and the beginning of January 2025. Contributions will be channelled through the account set up by the Generalitat Valenciana for this purpose. The Palau has also programmed two concerts to support the Amores, Grup de Percussió and the Sedajazz collective, both of which have been seriously affected by this tragedy.

The director of the Palau, Vicente Llimerá, emphasised: ‘All the concerts held at the Palau are beginning with a minute’s silence in memory of the victims, their families and those affected by the DANA. We want to maintain a constant remembrance so as not to forget this tragedy and to express our most sincere recognition and support for all those affected’.

Nadal Solidari brings together in the Palau traditional events such as Handel’s ‘Messiah’, the Christmas Concert of the Municipal Symphonic Band of Valencia, melodic ballets, the operetta The Merry Widow by Strauss, a Christmas concert to the rhythm of jazz, the recreation of the Viennese New Year’s Concert and two musical and playful proposals for children.

To support two groups closely linked to the Palau and who have suffered serious losses due to the DANA, on 22 December at 12:00, the Amores, Grup de Percussió will present the concert ‘Solidarity’ in the Sala Rodrigo, with their own works and works by J. On Thursday 26 December, at 19:30, the Jove Big Band Sedajazz, together with guest artists, will take to the same stage. These concerts will be free of charge, but there will be a ‘fila cero’ (zero queue) for those who wish to contribute financially to those affected.

The Nadal Solidari programme will begin on 11th December at 19:00 in the Sala Iturbi, with Georg Friedrich Händel’s ‘Messiah’, performed by the British group The Sixteen, conducted by Harry Christophers. This famous Baroque oratorio has been one of the traditional events in the Valencian auditorium since its inauguration in 1987.

The next event will be the Municipal Symphonic Band’s Christmas Concert, on 15 December, at 11:30 am, also in the Sala Iturbi. This free concert, conducted by Álvaro Albiach and featuring the Juan Bautista Comes choir, will include famous works related to Christmas by Dvořák, Tchaikovsky and Morales, as well as a selection of Christmas carols. There will also be a ‘fila cero’, the proceeds of which will be donated to the account set up by the Federación de Sociedades Musicales de la Comunitat Valenciana to help the musical societies affected.

Another outstanding programme will be that of 19 December, in the Sala Iturbi, at 19:30, featuring the Orquesta de València conducted by Josep Vicent. They will perform a programme made up of great ballets such as ‘Spartacus’ by Khachaturian, ‘The Firebird’ by Stravinsky and ‘Swan Lake’ by Tchaikovsky.

To the rhythm of jazz

Christmas to the rhythm of jazz will arrive on the 21st of December at 19:00 in the Sala Iturbi, with the show Jazzy Christmas. Under the direction of Ximo Tébar and Nacho Mañó, outstanding artists of the genre will offer the second edition of this concert, which last year was a success due to its variety of styles and standards.

On 22nd December, at 6:30 pm, in the Sala Iturbi, the public will be able to enjoy the concert version of the operetta ‘The Bat’ by Johann Strauss. It will be performed by the French ensemble Les Musiciens du Louvre, conducted by Mark Minkowski, with a luxury vocal cast and the participation of the Cor de Cambra del Palau de la Música Catalana.

On the 29th of December, at 5:00 pm, also in the Sala Iturbi, the family concert ‘The Nutcracker and the Mouse King’, a tale by Hoffmann accompanied by the music of Tchaikovsky, will be performed by the Orquesta Sinfónica de les Belles Arts.

The Belles Arts Symphony Orchestra and Ballet, conducted by José Vicente Ramón Segarra, will perform a selection of arias, waltzes and polkas by Strauss, Puccini, Offenbach and Tchaikovsky.

The musical activities of Nadal Solidari will end on 4 January, when a day of solidarity will be held for the whole family in different areas of the Valencian auditorium, with performances by musical groups, magic for the little ones, participatory workshops, storytelling and traditional children’s games, from 10:00 to 19:00.
