The 40th Anniversary Exhibition of the Mostra de València at the Galeria del Tossal is Extended Until December 14
- The exhibition is dedicated to the posters that have defined its visual identity and are signed by names such as Javier Mariscal, Paco Roca, Carlos Berlanga and Ana Juan.
One of the most special events scheduled to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani is the exhibition “The Posters of the Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani (1980–2025)”, hosted at the Galeria del Tossal and now extended until next December 14. The exhibition takes visitors through four decades of graphic creation via the posters that have accompanied the festival from its beginnings to the present day. Curated by Marisa Giménez Soler, it is held in collaboration with the Institut Valencià de Cultura.
The Councillor for Cultural Action, Heritage and Cultural Resources and President of the Palau de la Música, José Luis Moreno, highlighted that “we wanted to extend this magnificent exhibition, which is enjoying great public success and which reaffirms—through the posters of all editions—the rich cultural and audiovisual legacy of the Mostra throughout its long and fruitful trajectory.” Moreno also added that “we review the audiovisual legacy the festival has left through its posters, which helps us understand the evolution of design in our city.”
Meanwhile, Sara Mansanet, director of the festival, stressed that “the film poster is a piece of art in itself and a reflection of its time. By bringing this collection together, we are not only celebrating 40 years of cinema in València, but also paying tribute to the great creators who have put their genius at the service of the Mostra.”
Over its 40-year history, the festival has enjoyed the collaboration of renowned visual artists such as Artur Heras, Manuel Boix, Jordi Ballester, Manolo Valdés and José Morea, who painted the posters for the earliest editions. Carlos Berlanga, from the world of music, and Francis Montesinos, from the world of fashion, have also contributed their talent, adding new perspectives to the festival’s graphic universe.
The fields of comics and illustration are represented by major figures such as Ana Juan, Daniel Torres, Mique Beltrán, Paco Roca and Vicente Ferrer, while design has been key in shaping the festival’s visual identity thanks to creators such as Javier Mariscal, Rafael Contreras, Marisa Llongo, Manolo Sánchez, Ibán Ramón, Domènec Morera, Dani Molero, Diego Mir, Boke Bazán, Vicent Ramon, Milimbo, Creatias Estudio, Lorena Sayavera, Dos Puntos and Dídac Ballester and Rosella Reig, creators of this year’s poster.
The exhibition, which can be visited at the Galeria del Tossal until next December 14, offers the public a unique opportunity to discover how the poster has served simultaneously as memory, resistance, an object of worship and a mirror of the cultural evolution of the festival.
