The Orchestra of Valencia and its principal conductor, Alexander Liebreich, interpret Die Schöpfung (The Creation), one of the most brilliant and inspired oratorios in the history of music, admired by Beethoven, Mendelssohn or Liszt, among other great composers. The excellent German choral group Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks, together with soprano Julia Kleiter, contralto Merit Ostermann, tenor Werner Güra and baritone Ludwig Mitterlhammer, make up an exceptional international cast.

The “Llíria City of Music” Orchestra, under the direction of Pascual Cabanes, will close the cycle of the reopening of the Sala Rodrigo, to perform the program “Música a la llum de Sorolla” dedicated to Joaquín Sorolla, on the occasion of his centenary . It is a rich repertoire with works such as the pasdoble “Suspiros de España” by Álvarez Alonso; “Two Andalusian miniatures” by Joaquín Rodrigo, “La Oración del torero” by Joaquín Turina; the interludes of “Goyescas” by Enrique Granados, “La venta de los gatos” by José Serrano, “La leyenda del beso” by Soutullo i Vert and “El Baile” and “La Boda” by Luis Alonso de Gerónimo Gimenez; the prelude “El Bateo” by Federico Chueca and the Fandango of “Doña Francisquita” by Amadeo Vives, complete the program.

The Orchestra of the Valencian Community makes its debut at the Palau de la Música and in its programming. Directed by its owner, James Gaffigan, they will perform a program that will open with the opening of “Merlin”, the last opera by Isaac Albéniz, which will be followed by the beautiful “Wesendonck Lieder” by Richard Wagner, sung by the mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton. In the second part, one of the works most loved by the general public such as Symphony no. 6 “Pathetic” by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Ariane Matiakh is one of the conductors with the greatest international projection, of great versatility, technical precision and musicality, and who makes her debut at the head of the Orchestra of Valencia and the Palau de la Música. Together with the Palestinian-Israeli pianist Saleem Ashkar they will perform the Piano Concerto no. 2 by Felix Mendelssohn, a fine example of the German composer’s personal temperament and deep romanticism. Suites no. 1 and no. 2 of “Bacchus et Ariane” by Albert Roussel and the nocturne “Vers la voûte étoilée”, op. 129 by Charles Koechlin, complete this delicate and suggestive program.

The cycle “*Cambra al Palau” that takes place in the Almodí presents a new date in which tribute will be paid to Salvador *Porter, a great musician, who was concertmaster of the Orchestra of Valencia for many years. The violinists Manuel Segarra and Luis *Osca, the viola players Josep. M. León and Miguel Izquierdo and the cellists David Forés and Bernat Tortosa, teachers and colleagues of Porter in the Orchestra of Valencia, will premiere “Porter” by JJ Álvaro Corell, as well as the beautiful La nit transfigurada by Arnold Schoenberg and the Sextet no. 1 in B flat major by Johannes Brahms.

“Valencia in the world” is the title of the eclectic and suggestive program proposed by the clarinetist David Martínez, the violinist Néstor Luciano Casalino, the cellist Gustavo Nardi, the double bass Francisco Catalá, the percussionist Luis Osca and the pianist Juan E Cuacci The public will be able to listen to a repertoire of Valencian composers that ranges from the renaissance of Luys de Milán and the classicism of Vicente Martín i Soler, the 20th century by Joaquín Rodrigo with his “Concert d’Aranjuez”, Ruperto Chapí, Óscar Esplá and Matilde Salvador and the present with a work by Cuacci himself.

The Russian concert pianist Boris Giltburg is one of the international pianists, together with Grigori Sokolov, most loved by the Valencian public. Not surprisingly, he was artist in residence at the Palau de la Música, offering concerts with the Orchestra of Valencia and chamber recitals of great artistic height. With admirable musicality, tempo, technique and stage presence, he will perform a program centered on the preludes of Sergei Rachmaninov. A true “tour de forcé” for the concert player, in which the mysterious, virtuoso and famous Prelude op. 3 no. 2 in C sharp minor.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Symphony no. 5 in E minor, op. 64

The Orchestra of Valencia, directed by the Valencian maestro Josep Vicent, will perform a Russian-Spanish program made up of Modest Mussorgsky’s haunting symphonic poem “A Night on the Peeled Mountain”, which describes a coven, written for piano and later orchestrated by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. It will be followed by the “Brass Quintet Concerto” by Salvador Brotons, which will be performed by the wind-metal ensemble Spanish Brass and will conclude with the melodic and monumental Symphony no. 5 by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, masterpiece of Russian Romanticism.

The Mahler Chamber Orchestra returns to the Palau de la Música, a great formation founded in 1997 by Claudio Abbado, which will be conducted by the brilliant Italian maestro Daniele Gatti, so closely linked to the Zurich Opera, the National de France and the Royal Concertgebouw. The audience will be able to listen to a program that revolves around the classicism and neoclassicism of Europe in the 1920s and 1930s, which will begin with the “Classical Symphony” by Sergei Prokofiev, continue with the Symphony Concertant Hob 1/105 by Joseph Haydn and conclude with the Symphony in C major by Igor Stravinsky.
