L’Almodí hosts the exhibition of the Dutch artist Claudy Jongstra ‘Art i Ecologia’.

  • The exhibition is a reflection on nature and sustainability and their relationship with creative activity.
  • Councillor José Luis Moreno has encouraged citizens to enjoy this cultural proposal, which can be seen until the end of April.

The municipal museum space L’Almodí offers, until 27th April, the exhibition entitled ‘Art i Ecologia’, a plastic and intellectual proposal with pieces by the Dutch artist Claudy Jongstra, which is a reflection on nature and sustainability and their relationship with creative activity.

The exhibition has been open to the public since yesterday afternoon, when it was officially opened by the Councillor for Cultural Action, José Luis Moreno, in an event attended by the artist, Claudy Jongstra, who explained the details of her proposal and stressed the importance of craftsmanship in contemporary art. The opening of the exhibition was also attended by the Honorary Consul of the Netherlands in Valencia, Daan Hirs, and the artist’s gallery owner and representative in Spain, Bert van Zetten.

Jongstra is a renowned textile artist and sustainability advocate. Her work has been exhibited in prestigious museums such as the MoMA in New York, the Victoria & Albert in London and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, among others. The creator is renowned for her mastery of textile art, particularly in working with wool and natural dyes, elements that she works with personally and transforms into pieces of great beauty and cultural significance. As the show’s organisers have emphasised, her works are not only visually stunning, but also tell a story that connects artisanal tradition with contemporary concerns such as biodiversity, ethical production and environmental impact.

Councillor José Luis Moreno has invited the public and visitors to enjoy this plastic proposal, and has highlighted the close relationship, in this case, between the work and the building, given that, as is well known, L’Almodí, a building that has been classified as an Asset of Cultural Interest, BIC, and a Historic Artistic Monument since 1969, was built in the early fifteenth century to centralise the wheat trade in the city.

The exhibition can be visited free of charge until 27 April, during the usual opening hours of the cultural centre, located at number 1, Plaza de San Luis Beltrán: Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 15:00 to 19:00; and on Sundays and public holidays, from 10:00 to 14:00.
