Inauguration of “Dibujar para crear. Drawings and posters from the Benlliure House Museum”

Next Wednesday, 17 July, the Temporary Exhibition Hall of the Benlliure House Museum will host the opening of the exhibition Dibujar para crear. Drawings and posters from the Benlliure House Museum.

This exhibition project presents various facets of the painters José Benlliure and his son Peppino Benlliure in which the initial sketches and drawings are especially valued as the germ of the whole creative process.

The first section shows José Benlliure’s work to illustrate Vicente Blasco Ibáñez’s La Barraca, allowing the visitor to discover the complete process of illustrating a literary text. Two other sections present José and Peppino Benlliure’s incursion into the world of advertising posters, a field in which the transmission of a message through a single image involves a process of synthesis based on drawing. And finally, a small section outlines the role of drawing in the work of both painters as a preliminary step to the creation of pictorial works.

The exhibition includes a selection of more than fifty pieces, including drawings, sketches, documents, photographs and bibliographical copies. Most of the works presented in this exhibition are on paper, a medium that does not allow them to be exhibited to the public on a continuous basis, which is why this exhibition is an opportunity to get to know this often hidden work of the two painters to whom the museum is dedicated.
