THE SATURNALIA IN VALENTIA
The Saturnalia was a popular festival among the ancient Romans, which was celebrated between 17 and 23 December in honour of the god Saturn, coinciding with the winter solstice. During these days, the social order was temporarily subverted: slaves were treated more equally and shared a table with their masters, and an atmosphere of joy and freedom was allowed. Gifts were also exchanged, such as candles or terracotta figurines, a custom similar to Christmas today. Come and relive the Saturnalia with us.
