An exhibition at the Atarazanas del Grau recalls its shipping past

  • The exhibition can be visited until 30 June

This afternoon the exhibition ‘Brisa, brea, son’ was inaugurated at the Atarazanas del Grau, an exhibition selected as part of the València City Council’s public call for exhibition projects 2021-2023. The exhibition has been selected by a multidisciplinary jury formed by members of the Association of Visual Artists of Valencia, Alicante and Castelló (AVVAC), the Valencian Association of Art Critics, the Academy of San Carlos, the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Department of Culture of the City Council of Valencia.

‘Brisa, brea, sueño’ is a project created specifically for the Atarazanas and has been created by the artistic duo Lola & Sosaku and curated by Eva Ibáñez Soriano. The exhibition recalls the shipbuilding and arsenal past of the Atarazanas through the creation of a sculptural-sound artefact. The artists propose possible scenarios for this building which remains mute but which, in the past, was full of sounds, people and lives associated with the workers’ movement and the uses of the building. Today, the written documents and the stones of the building are the only vestiges that remain.

The exhibition can be visited at the Atarazanas del Grau until 30 June. Visiting hours from Tuesday to Saturday are from 10 am to 2 pm and from 3 pm to 7 pm. Sundays and public holidays, the opening hours are from 10 am to 2 pm. On Mondays, the Atarazanas will be closed.
