The Orquesta and Choir RTVE, Serafín Zubiri and David Pastor Band pay tribute to Nino Bravo in the key of jazz

The Orquesta y Coro RTVE, conducted by Raúl Benavent together with the singer Serafín Zubiri and David Pastor Band, will pay tribute tomorrow Friday at 8 p.m. to the legendary Valencian singer Nino Bravo, in a concert in which his most famous songs can be heard in a jazz key, with musical arrangements by Borja Arias.

The director of the Palau, Vicente Llimerá, stressed that “this year symphonic jazz fusion is very present in our festival, and tomorrow we will be able to attend a great show with the Orquesta y Coro RTVE and Serafín Zubiri where we join the tribute to the unforgettable Nino Bravo on the 50th anniversary of his death”. Llimerá added that “although this concert has already been performed in symphonic format, now we have the opportunity to enjoy it in jazz style, with one of our great jazzmen, David Pastor and his band”.

Among many other songs, the audience will be able to listen to “Como todos”, “Esa será mí casa”, “Elizabeth”, “Te quiero, te quiero”, “El tren se va”, “Cartas amarillas”, “Puerta de amor”, “Mis noches sin ti”, “Noelia”, “Mi tierra”, “Vuelve”, “Vivir”, “América, América”, “Un beso y una flor” and “Libre”.

The following day, the American drummer, producer and composer Terri Lyne Carrington returns to the València Jazz Festival, after her only performance in Valencia in 2012 in a programme shared with Dianne Reeves. She will present to Valencian audiences her latest multidisciplinary project, “New Standards Vol. 1”, in which she will present scores by women composers spanning almost a century. It is a show that includes dance. She will be accompanied by Milena Casado (trumpet), Mates Sandahl (double bass), Christie Dashiell (voice), Aaron Parks (piano) and the dancer Christiana Hunte.

Raúl Benavent has been percussion soloist with the Orquesta Sinfónica RTVE since 1999. He has toured Spain and abroad with performances in Granada, Santander, Madrid, Havana, Monterrey and Belgrade. David Pastor Band brings together the best Spanish instrumentalists, who propose ambitious programmes, from the origins of jazz, with Buddy Bolden and New Orleans as epicentres, to Ornette Coleman and Chick Corea, Cuban jazz and Rubén Blades. Serafín Zubiri has participated in numerous national and international musicals, and has recorded soundtracks of great popular repercussion. He stands out for his sensitivity and commitment to social causes.
