Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived in Vienna from 1781 until his death in 1791. In the Austrian capital, he wrote compositions for the ensemble, gave piano lessons and created some of the immortal scores for which he is known. From this period of his life, the violins Manuel Segarra and Lluis Osca, the viola Josep Manuel León, the cellist David Forés, the clarinet David Martínez and the horn Santiago Pla, all of them musicians of the Orquestra de València, as well as the viola player Miguel Izquierdo, have selected three masterpieces to present in “Cambra al Palau”, which is taking place in the Sala Rodrigo. The String Quartet No. 14 in G major, KV 387 “Spring”, the Horn Quintet in E flat major, KV 407 and the Clarinet Quintet in A major, KV 581, complete this exciting programme that will delight lovers of the music of the genius from Salzburg.

A purely Spanish, melodic and colourful programme is offered by the Orquestra de València, conducted by the principal guest conductor, Álvaro Albiach. The programme includes the Concert for clarinet in B flat, percussion quintet and symphony orchestra by José Alamá Gil, composer and teacher of the Banda Simfònica Municipal de València for 43 years. His partner in the centenary symphonic group, Juan Antonio Fenollar, will perform this concert with the percussionists Raúl Benavent, Javier Eguillor, Josep Furió, José Luis González and Lluís Osca. A concert that shows a wide range of surprising timbres, brought together in the great diversity of solo percussion instruments. “Hemeroscopium” by Antón García Abril, the succession of sound atmospheres, in the manner of scenic and energetic quadres by Joaquín Turina and the beautiful and dreamlike evocation, with a clear Hispanic flavour, of the Suite d’imatges “Ibèria” by Claude Debussy, make up this evocative programme.

The new date of the cycle “Cambra al Palau” will feature the violinist Esther Vidal, the viola player Pilar Marín and the cellist Gustavo Nardi, professors and teacher of the Orquestra de València, as well as the violinist Elena Rey, who will bring an eclectic programme to the Sala Rodrigo, combining a Valencian first part, from here, with the modernity of the prestigious composer Francisco Coll and his work “cants”, as well as the tradition of Ruperto Chapí with his Quartet d’entenimentades no. 3 in D major. 3 in D major. A magnificent opportunity to admire a facet of Chapí that is somewhat unknown, that of the chamber music, overshadowed by his success on the sarsuela. The second part, from Argentina, with Piazzolla’s “Four for tango” and Ginastera’s Quartet d’entenimentades no. 1, op. 20.

The Municipal Symphonic Band, under the direction of its conductor Cristóbal Soler, will offer a programme of great repertoire. It will begin with one of the most intense, rhythmic and colourful pages of Saint-Saëns’ “Bacchanalian Dance” from his opera “Samson and Delilah”, and then continue with the very popular poem “El caragol Mifasol” by the Valencian composer Ferrer Ferrán, a nice piece dedicated to all the children who study music. The concert will conclude with one of the most popular works of all times, “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff. A composition that uses as its text a selection of the medieval Goliadic poems found in the collection of poems “Carmina Burana”. Powerful, melodic, rhythmic and spectacular, it will feature the participation of the soprano Saray García, the tenor Rafael Quirant, the baritone Fernando Piqueras, the Cor Universitari Sant Yago and the Escolanía de la Real Basílica de Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados.

The reading-concert “The Music of Jane Austen” is the latest event in “Les Arts en Paral-lel”. The veteran cycle of the Palau de la Música, directed by Ángeles López Artiga and coordinated by Rafael E. González, will immerse the public in the world of sound surrounding the famous British writer Jane Austen. The author Espido Freire and the Nostrum Mare Camerata, conducted by Jacobo Christiansen, will take part. In the musical part, compositions by Dowland, Mozart, Beethoven, Paganini, Schubert, Rossini and Offenbach will be performed.

Debuting at the Palau de la Música and with the Orquestra de València are the young brothers Lucas & Arthur Jensen, a sensation on the social networks, with a truly surprising technique and stage presence. At only eight and twelve years old, they played for the first time for Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. They have released six albums, the first of which won the silver disc, and the other three, the gold disc. They will perform the beautiful and romantic Concert for two pianos and orchestra in E major by Mendelssohn, under the baton of the Estonian conductor Olari Elts, with a solid international career and chief conductor and music director of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. The overture “Melusina” by the German composer and the 2nd version of Stravinsky’s “Petrouchka” from 1947 complete this programme.

Grigory Sokolov is one of the most sought-after pianists by Valencian audiences, and a fixture in the Palau de la Música’s programme. He has played there on 18 occasions, and has done so uninterruptedly since 2014. On this occasion he returns to the Sala Iturbi and its excellent acoustics, after four years of absence due to renovation of the hall. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy again this piano colossus, considered one of the best in the world, as well as his titanic recitals, full of musicality, intimacy, technique and virtuosity. He will perform a programme of masterpieces from the Baroque and Romantic periods. The ensemble Moonwinds Simfònic, led by Joan Enric Lluna, is presented in the cycle “Cambra al Palau” which takes place in the Sala Rodrigo, with a very interesting and high quality project, based on the unpublished ballets of the Valencian composer Vicente Martín i Soler. This is a staged concert, with Andoni Mercero as concertmaster and Rosana Pastor as actress. Two works by Martín i Soler, recovered from Nàpols, such as “El rapte de les Sabines” and the suite “La bella Arsene”, with the Symphony No. 25 in G minor, KV 183/173dB by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, will put in context the music of their time and the rivalry between the two composers.

The Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana returns to the Palau de la Música, this time in the Sala Rodrigo, in chamber format, with the programme “Choral works of German romanticism and post-romanticism”. Conducted by Jordi Blanch, with tenor Antonio Lozano and pianist Francisco Hervás, the audience will be able to listen to a beautifully crafted and musical programme, which will alternate romanticism with master choral works by Franz Schubert and Johannes Brahms, with post-romanticism works by Josef Rheinberger and Heinrich von Herzogenberg.
