Cristóbal Soler takes over the Municipal Band for the first time with a concert of Valencian music and the great European repertoire.

The concert will feature pieces by Rafael Talens, Asins Arbó, Berlioz and Mussorgsky.

The conductor Cristóbal Soler premieres this Sunday, January 21, at 11:30 am, in the Palau de la Música, his tenure at the helm of the Municipal Symphonic Band. After his presentation by the Councillor for Cultural Action, Heritage and Cultural Resources, José Luis Moreno, and the first contact with the faculty of the centenary lyrical group, the Valencian maestro is finalizing this concert, which combines works by Valencian authors Rafael Talens and Miguel Asins Arbó with scores of the great international repertoire of Hector Berlioz and Modest Mussorgsky.

The Councillor for Cultural Action, Heritage and Cultural Resources, José Luis Moreno, invited the public to “enjoy the debut of the new artistic director of the Municipal Band, Cristóbal Soler, in the first concert of the musical group with works by Valencian composers and the international musical repertoire”.

For his part, Soler has shown his satisfaction at the beginning of his career as head conductor and has stated that “it is an honor, as a Valencian musician, to be the conductor of the Municipal Symphonic Band of Valencia, of its excellent teachers and professors, which for me, without doubt, is synonymous with making music with enthusiasm, dedication and passion, with the commitment to put it in value with new and exciting projects and to be at the service of the Valencian society, our public”.

The program of the first concert includes, first, the pasodoble “Tercio de quites” by the Cullera composer Rafael Talens, followed by the colorful and rhythmic symphonic poem “Mare Nostrum” by Miguel Asins Arbó, in which various elements of Valencian folklore are collected and developed.

A second part of the concert will be dedicated to the international symphonic repertoire with two romantic composers, the French Hector Berlioz and his “Carnaval Romano”, transcribed for band by Emilio Vega, and the famous “Pictures at an Exhibition” by the Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky, transcribed by José Schyns. It is a score for piano by Mussorgsky himself, which was later masterfully orchestrated by Maurice Ravel. It is inspired by ten paintings and drawings included in a posthumous exhibition of the artist Viktor Hartmann.

Tickets for the concert will be available to the general public one day before the concert, on Saturday, January 20, from 10:00 a.m. onwards. They will be available in person at the Palau’s box office and virtually through the Palau’s website. Admission will be free until full capacity is reached.
